Committees
Committees at PS 147
There are several active committees at PS 147 focused on specific initiatives. Committees work closely with the PTA and SLT to pursue common goals for the school, while maintaining an autonomy that allows for committees to work independently and quickly on specialized projects and activities. Below is a list of the current committees at PS 147 and their goals and projects.
Participatory Budgeting
Thank you to all the families and community members who assisted in outreach efforts to ensure that our school receive funding for an auditorium upgrade.
Gardening Committee
Goal: Teaching students the values of gardening, including air quality, sustainable food, healthy environmental choices, and bringing beauty to our lives.
Projects: Creating a year round garden, bringing trees into the classrooms, composting, maintaining flowers in patio area.
PR Committee
Goal: Promoting PS 147 both to families at school and outside school.
Projects: Redesigned website, reaching out to community.
Fundraising Committee
Goal: Brainstorming ideas for raising money for PTA, principal discretionary fund, committee projects.
Makers Committee
Goal: Creating a space where teachers can integrate the arts into their curriculum.
Projects: Recycling drive, Pinterest board with art project ideas, utilizing Materials for the Arts.
Sustainability Committee
Goal: Creating sustainable environments within PS 147.
Projects: Implementing recycling, decreasing waste in cafeteria, eliminating Styrofoam from PS 147, making the hydroponics lab self-sustaining (including solar panels for power)/
DLP Committee
Goal: Integrating Japanese culture and language into PS 147
Projects: Japanese focused festivals to increase awareness
